Art of Speaking: Clear, Concise, & Compelling Presentations
This workshop is the first of a two part public speaking series.
(This can be also be delivered as a stand-alone program.) This
seminar helps attendees organize, deliver and design professional
presentations. For each section of the seminar, specific suggestions
and guidelines for effective presentation will be provided using
examples from your specific area of the scientific/technical community.

Art of Speaking: From Stress to Success
This is the second part of a two part public speaking series, however,
can also be delivered as a stand-alone program. This workshop
focuses on additional advanced "stress-inducing" presentation skills:
overcoming speaker apprehension, handling the question and answer
(Q&A) section of a presentation, overcoming disasters, and
presenting what you do in 45 seconds or less. More details provided in
contract proposals.
Art of Award Winning Poster Presentations
This workshop helps attendees organize, design and deliver professional
poster presentations. For each section of the seminar, specific
suggestions and guidelines are provided using examples from your
specific area of the scientific or technical community. More details
provided in contract proposals.
Art of the Job Talk
This workshop covers presentation and interview skills for those
preparing for a job talk. The job market is more complex and
challenging than ever before. Young scientists and engineers are facing
a larger array of career choices, many of them are not getting the job
interviewing advice they need.
This workshop presents information to help attendees prepare,
organize, design and deliver a compelling, clear and captivating
academic or industry job talk. Suggestions and guidelines for effective
job talks are provided using examples from your specific area of the
scientific and technical community.
Art of the Classroom: Lecturing, facilitation and e-classrooms
In the classroom scientists and engineers are faced with the important
job of sharing their knowledge while developing analytical thinking in
young adults. Although these skills are critical to maintaining the
strong academic reputation of your institution, many have received
little or no training to develop world class classroom lecture and
facilitation skills. This wokshop covers the essentials to be effective
(and perhaps inspirational) in the classroom.
This professional development workshop helps attendees prepare,

In both academia and industry a large part of professional success
depends on the important ability to network effectively.
Networking isn’t just about handing out business cards, asking
for referrals and attending meetings. Networking is the
development and maintenance of mutually valuable relationships.
Particpants learn valuable concepts and practical techniques to help
scientists and engineers connect.
Art of New Media
In both academia and industry a large part of professional success
depends on the important ability to network and communicate your work
and your value. In this seminar participants will learn how new
media (podcasting, blogging, vodcasting, wikis, social/professional
network, etc.) has become an important part of scientific communication
and will also review how “open source” norms of
transparency, access, and collaboration might work with scientists.
Lisa shares valuable concepts and practical techniques to help
scientists and engineers learn the following:
