It’s true. Cute baby pictures can make your brain feel like you’re on drugs! Really.

I keep THE MOST adorable baby picture of my twins on all of my devices and I also keep a hard copy of the image in my wallet. I’ve been doing this for years. Most people keep pictures of their kids with them because they love their children.

LinkedIn Colleague Gail wrote and essentially was asking me, what is the best way to advertise or let others know in the scientific community that she was available for work, short of spamming people with a link to her CV. Here’s her note.

How to Get Rid of Ums and Ahs!

Disfluencies, in general, weaken messages. They’re distracting for your listeners and they make you sound bad.

In the first 30 seconds I counted four “likes” and three “rights” and two “ums”. Worse, I’m certain that Tom had no idea that his speech was infected with these verbal viruses.

I’ve been very busy this summer!  You can’t tell by the postings because there haven’t been any!! Why?  Because I’ve spent a good portion of my time writing THE MOST comprehensive learning package on interviewing skills.  I’m very excited about this.

Interviewing and Networking "Stimulus Package"

Today I’ll be presenting at the National Institute of Health / National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease in Washington, DC.   Last week I was at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.  This post is mostly intended for those participants.  However, I decided to open it up to new readers (who haven’t yet subscribed to my newsletter).

In this tough job market, this news is good news.  Turns out some of the smaller schools are taking advantage of the downturn to scoop up highly qualified candidates.  I’ll be delivering a talk at Harvard University in February on interviewing and networking.  Maybe I can help  a little too <smile>?
